
We still see that child trafficking and sex exploitation have been continuing not only in Cambodia, but also countries over the world. presently, exploitation and trafficking of child under the age is a serious and worrisome issues occurring In Cambodia. To prevent child trafficking, The Royal Government of Cambodia created Law on Suppression of The Kidnapping, Trafficking/Sales and Exploitation of Human Persons. Though, creation of anti-child trafficking law, younger children sex trade is still increasing because of lack of widespread dessimination of laws and injustice in the judicial system, impunity, low-still trafficking-related education and information dessimination…etc.
In order to strengthen and prevent child sex trade, The Asia Foundation create TIPinAsia web portal in an attempt to enables government and non-governmental organizations in 10 countries to become more efficient and effective in combating trafficking in persons.
Many of these children are either sold prostitution to pay off their family debts or forcibly recruited on the street to work in brothels and so on.
Almost on the page of daily newspapers have many issues related to childrend, under the age of 18, such as child labor, child sex tourism, rape, drug use, and so on. According to LICADHO’s investigation in 2004, there are 205 cases of rape and indecent assault compared to 146 cases in 2001.
Therefore, we, children would like to urge the Royal Government of Cambodia to (Childrend’s Report, December 2004):
- Create special court for defending children
- Effectively reduce poverty
- Strengthen the implementation of the memorandum of understanding of each country to stop cross-border trafficking
- Eliminate brothels and gambling places that foster child sex trafficking
- Give awards to those who report to the police and to arrest the offenders and encourage victims to help find the offenders
- Choose caretakers who are knowledgeable, experienced and willing to work with children
- Strengthen the judicial system to be independent and just
- Effectively implement the laws by punishing offenders and those who free offenders
- Increase education through the media, especially in the remote areas
- wildely dessiminate information about intervention services for children
- Eliminate corruption
- Create many rehabilitation centers and effectively implement them.
