Directive warns Schools agianst false ads
Presently, private institutes are remarkabley increasing not only in Phnom Penh, but also in some big provinces in Cambodia. In order to compete with each others, each institute always produces its own strategies to attract students.
Premier’s directive announced to warn private higher education institutes against false advertisement. Previously, they have exagerated their advertisement in TV, in Radion, on Newspapers, on Banners. By the way, some institutes are falsely claiming to have foreign affiliations to attract more students and then they will be able to charge more fee. So far, there are 34 private universties under way in Cambodia.
Prime minister said “Any advertisements that are inappropriate and exagerate the truth of and institute’s education services and its advantages are strongly prohibited. Those abusers of the notice will be punished before the law.”, Cambodia Daily reported.
“two private institutes in Battambang and Siem Reap were closed by Ministry of Education after the both exagerated the truth and violated directive dated January 31 2006.”SomneThei newspaper reported.
Most institutes are needing an amount of enrollemnt of students but they don’t pay most attention to quality of student. Why do most gradute students have no job after quitting their University?. What will happen to the next generation?.
Rong Chhun, president of the Cambodian Independent Teacher’s Association, said “private universities tend to be more interested in making money than in education” and he added that ” They advertise to absorb students, not to promote quality.”

Most (or all) of those private universities are just parking universities. Gov’t might also use those universities as tools to control the flow of high school graduates to the job markets.
At least they can keep those fresh high school graduates for another 4 years before they enter the job market or doing other (bad) things.
well it’s also nice to know that they are stricting the rules and the regulations. It is so confusing for many newly high school graduated to decide what they want to do in life when all universities are bunch of liars and false.
