Letter of Yan Sokun: Sukun’s struggling life

I am interested in the article of ” Sukun’s struggling life” published in the Magazine of The Bamboo Shoot, on October-December 2005. At the mean time, I extract the whole context to republish as saying:

Naturally, some human beings are born lucky but others are not, It is not striking contrast to animal. Some born with good physical state while others are crippel.

Here, The Bamboo Shoot would like to share the story of a boy who is deaf and dumb lives in Phum Metek, Khum Metek, Bakan district, Pursat Province.

Yan Sokun got his birth defect since he was born compared to his healthy siblings. Sokun, 12, is the second child anomgst five siblings in the family. With his ambition to grasp knowledge, he asked his parents to send him to school but they refused for his impairment reason. Anyway, he made his earnest attempt to study however.

His tempts was not fruitless, at last he can sit in the class among healthy students. Remorsefully, he is ignored by the teacher for it’s hard to teach such a deaf and dumb boy. In the class, he is allowed to sit at the back alone in order not to annoy the others.

With his attempt, Sokun is able to write letters now and also was promoted to the second grade. He can let us know via his body language and gesture ” Previously I saw my brothers go to school and I wantd too as well, but my parents refused. They just wanted me to do household chores and herd the cows”. He added ” Accoding to my repeated requirey they let me go. On the first day in class I was put at the back row table and I just wrote what I saw on the board without knowing what they mean”. He continued ” In 2003, there was an organization, as I remember, the Krusa Thmey Organization had assembled all kinds of impaies children: 7 in total, three girls. I am glad to study with the same kind of classmates.

Up to now, we are in grade 2 but our age can’t be matched with the grade. He also gestured ” I dont’t hope to learn for what but my all classmates want to study sewing as a future career.

Finally, I would like to suggest all charities and compassionated helpers to provide one sewing school/class and teacher for us.
