Sin Sisamut Night Program, organized by Khmer Ahimsa, CEDAC and CIDS (Cambodia Institute Development Study), has been held one time every month on the full moon day. Its purposes are to enhance and conserve heritage of Khmer culture with the symbol of name of Sin Sisamut. This is the fourth to be held on March 14, 2006 from 5:30pm to 7:30pmin restaurant TATA, attended by supporters in order to listen to original songs in 60s. Organization of this program is aimed at raise money from participants. Participants contribute at least $1. An amount of contribution will be spent on conducting research of the real biography of well-know singers such Sin Sisamut, Ros SereySothear and so on.
Thong Kakada, Director of Khmer Ahimsa, said that the arrangement of this event is the purpose to conserve Khmer culture heritage. He added that all money collected from charity will be used properly. He told me that after having enough money, the first desire is to compile a book, which is described about the singers’ biography and title of songs. In the program.
I am so interested in the program, I attended it and I contributed 5000 Riel. Even thought, I have small money to contribute but I am happy for conservation of old songs. In the occasion, Mr. Oung D’ra, who is the violinist and composer, played violin and recalled participants the reall life of popular songs in 60s.
Kong Chandararoth, Director of CIDS, said that one of 3 organisations will regularly contribute $100 every month. And other funds have been raised from supporters or participants that attended the event. those funds will be used for conserving old culture.
Mr. Vanna, staff of Khmer Ahimsa, raised that the first initiative of the program happened by individuals who are interested in old songs and they always met together at their home in order to find out solution to establish association. And then they proposed their ideas to their organizations. By he added that nowadays, new singers sing Sin Sisamut’s songs and produce in CDs in order to sell on the market. This problem that he saw that are losing original voice and value of singers.
