Events happening before & after Khme New Year
Khmer New Year always have been celebrated in April every year. That is the event celebrated by all Cambodian people not only in the Country, but also abroad. As I know Khmer People is living abroad, they often participate in celebrating with Khmer New Year over weeken, though they are busy with their work and own bussiness. All private companies and public institutions were closed for 3 days in Cambodia.
Before New Deveda (Year of Dog) came to replace with the old (Year of roaster), all Cambodian families always clearned their home and prepared flowers and other stuff to usher in the New Year.
Before one or two days of New Year, People who is working in and living Phnom Penh have flooded to their downtown or rural areas in order to meet their relatives and family. At the mean time, Taxi-ticket fee have increased double. For me, the normal day, I payed only 15000 riel for my transportation from Phnom Penh to Memot district, but before and after Khmer New Year, the taxi ticket fee was up to 24000 riel. By the way, goods price was up also.
What I observed is that in the last 10 years, not so much pagodas in rural areas. Now there are a lot of newly-built pagodas in the whole country. By the way, during celebration of New Year, pagods, where used to be more people to visit, have a little visitors this year because these pagodas had not been decorated and made soemthing more attractive to young people. They like to visit somewhere to make them joy and happiness. So that, each temples should find out the strategy in order to attract residents, if there are a lot of visitors, more money would be raised for pagodas as well. It does not mean that it is the business.
