Life of taxi driver

Taxi driver’s life is depent on his saft driving. While passengers’ life rely on a driver for their travelling on the long road. Thise is the life of a man who has driven taxi more than 8 years. However, His experieces of driving taxi is long time, he is still afraid of accident happening by chance. His name is Limsry. His taxi travels from Phonm Penh to Snoul District one time a day, sometimes 2 times a per day, in case his customers need him to transport goods or laguages immediately.

On the evening April 13, 2006, I got in this taxi to come over to my homeland. At around 5 pm, the car departed from its taxi station near Central Market about 300 meters. One trafic police were standing on the road side in order to get money from taxi. The taxi driver talked to police that “Khmer New Year comes tomorrow, why are you still here”. The traffic polic said nothing. At the time, taxi-driver gave 1000 riel to police and then he drove his car away. When I saw the police taking money from taxi, I thought that it was the bribe happening from bottom to top and from top to bottom. I had digital camera with me but I did not take photo of it. Is the traffic police’s fault ro some one?. The case have always happened almost in the Phnom Penh city and other province and disrtict town throughout Cambodia. By the way, it is culture of junior police and civil servants in all levels. In fact, what they toke a petty money from taxi is only for supporting their family and relatives.

the taxi driver complainted about his business. He said his income was decreasing day by day becuase of many taxies, high gasoline price and new bus companies on this road. He added that he is bored of taxi-driving business.
