Many different point of views are reacting to the ban of 3G mobile phone usage, proposed by senor government officials’ wives last week. This idea were agreed by prime minister. High technology has negative impact on Khmer culture and Society. So that, opinions have been published on the Cambodia Daily on May, 29 2006 raised problem of ban of using 3G phone.
Mr.Dya Rith living in Phnom Penh said that “3G is like a knife. A knife is harmless when it is used in the kitchen to cut vegetables. But a knife can be harmful when it is used to hurt or kill some one.”
For reason of Third Generation phone technology to damage value of society and Khmer culture, it is only its part but we cannot prohibit to disseminate pornography. Presently, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) is providing Internet service over the world. By the way, Internet also provides a large amount of information and data, and we can download or transfer data quickly to anyone around the world and contact face to fact via Web-cam at any time.
Volak Sao said that “with or without 3G phones, pornography can still be spread around. Look at the current social problems we face nowadays, Just putting a halt to technology development is not necessarily a solution.”
By the way, Dougald O’Railly has attention to push for 3G petitioners to stand up for Heritage. He said that ” I would like to invite those who signed the petition to ban 3G technology to also stand up for the ancient heritage of Cambodia by signing another petition to request that Thailand and Singapore sign the 1970 UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization convention on the means of prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property.”
there are many arguments put forward on this issue of banning 3G..
hmm.. yah there are adv and disadv of 3G… so complicated to compare … watever.. then… let see if de gov’t solve dis issue…
You know? our students here in vietnam have just finishes their thesis which is written about 3G technology.After that prohibition , they feel very upset and upset about what they have done and their hopeful efforts so far…
I don’t know what the high rank officials’wives want to do…
the banning of third generation mobile phones is against human rights and international laws.this is the indication of power abuse and should be condemned in the highest terms possible.it should not be tolarated and it should be resisted.the government officials must rethink on changing this position and should bear in mind that change like death is innevitable.
