How to economize gasoline?
The root of causing to affect Cambodian people’s living standards is the increase in gas price. In the last few weeks, a senior government official appealed to Cambodian people to economize the fuel consumption becasue of the high gasoline price recently in Cambodia.
In the point of economizing consumption, I myself don’t know how to cut down my consumption everyday. Normally, I have to pay at least $2 for 2 days for my transportation (motocycle). I regularly drive my motocycle from my house 2 folds (morning and afternoon) and leave my office 2 times too (afternoon and evening). Total is 4 times a day. To economize my gas consumption, do I need to cut down my transportation or what should I do for saving gas?. Or I do not need to ride my motocycle???. Or I have to walk from house to my workplace everyday until the gas price is down???
What the government official raised was not strategy to help the poor people. The poor is worst poor, the rich is the more rich. So that, the gap between the poor and the rich is broadening in city and rural areas. How does the government cut down gasoline price?. How does he help improving the poor in remote rural areas?.

It’s funny how the government does not provide any public transportation (buses) and urges people to cut down on their consumption of gasoline. To be honest, I think they want the citizens to start taking Cyclo again….after all, it is gas efficient.
what the government said was the pretext. For Vietname, its governmnet took action to ban illegal gas smuggling to make gas price stable for its people. By the way, it subsidizes the private companies.
The gas price is high in Cambodia, it gives an opportunity to corrupt officials and illegal smuggling.
The Cambodian National Petroleum Authority and Japanese oil firm Mitsui have created a company to design a plan for a Cambodian crude oil refinery in Sihanouk Ville. It is expected that Cambodia will be able to use its gas and oil by 2009. Estimated 700 million barrels of crude oil in Block A will be exploided.
Mr. Sok An announced that Mutsui’s Moeco division have a 30% stake in the oil in offshore Block A. US-based oil firm Chevron has a 55% stake in thd feild and subsidiary Caltex has 15%.
omg, some corrupted officials are going to benifit off these profits tremendously. Poor cambodian pepole will still suffer….someone gotta take charge and use the profits to better their poeple’s living condition
I agree with Rod that the government failed to introduce the public transportations. However, we can’t totally blame on government. Saving here means we should not waste the gas for unnecessary use. Individual saving not only helps people, but it also expands the national economy as a whole.
Subsidy is just an incentive method to finance private sectors, but it may not be feasible to operate in long run leading to social inefficiency.
