Vutha,

It’s great to know that Khmer has the ability to produce its own products. We need more Khmer’s products in the international markets.

When I go to the Asian grocery stores in the U.S., most products that I find are either from China or Thailand. In the last couple of years or two, I have also seemed more products made in Vietnam. But I have not seen any grocery product such as canned food, frozen produce, or refreshment produced in Cambodia/ Kampuchea yet. I definitely will buy products that are marked “Made in Cambodia” or “Made in Kampuchea”. On the other hand, at the clothing malls it’s another story. I see more Khmer’s product than in the grocery stores.

In my opinion, the only way that we can make profit in the food processing products in the international markets, we (Khmer) need to invest more in food processing equipment/ manufactures. We need mass production. Then Khmer people can package, label, and sell in the international markets. This way our country will not only increase its GNP (Gross National Product) but more jobs are created, poverty in Cambodia will be reduced drastically. More importantly we should not get ourselves trapped in the garment and tourist industry alone. We need to diversify.

Thanks for your article. I read almost all Khmer’s news that comes across, especially the positive news.

I was also there with KhmerOS team. That's a great event. It's simple but meaningful. At least, before buying someting, Khmer people will think of Khmer products first. Yeah I hope so.

By the way, the Khmer OS link in your post is broken. I got "Error 404 - Not Found"
