Most of beer promotion grils are women who are working on promoting products such as beer, cosmetics, cigarette and other stuff to quests in bar, restaurant, from one place to others. Meanwhile, those are facing at the risk for permanant psychological and physical damage.

On 23, July, one of Cambodia’s largest beweries organised election for beer promoters in Phnom Penh. It’s aimed at combating the sexual harassement and violence that promoters face. Cambodia’s General Manager wrote in mail that those girl promoters have a fixed salary, freedom t walk away from abusive clients. In addition, those are not allowed to sit with guests and taken home in company van at night.

In order to sell out lots of products, they force themselves to sit with and entertain guests because when the more beer to sell, the more commission to get paid. As you know, their salary is not enough to feed family. Unlike Thailand, manufacturers send workers to make sure beer girls are not drinking with customers because it’s against their policy.

Ian Lerkeck, psychology professor, said that it is unlike Singapore and Thailand, beer promotion girls in Cambodia are not stricted in amount of alcohol they are allowed to consume while working. He recommended beer promotors in Cambodia limit themselves to one drink a night. And he added that employers should encourage customers to buy their stuff non-alcoholic drinks instead.
