Provinces hit by heavy rainfail
The rainy season is coming and provinces in mountainous areas on the coast and in coutry’s northern provinces severly suffured flood after heavy rain. Kampot is the province suffered more severly than other provinces. Some areas in Kampot’s town is up to 2 meters of water. Electricity and water supply were cut off. Market vendors paddled about a boat to seel vegetables from house to house.
By the way, 20,000 hectare of paddy fields were submerged under floodings. While Agriculture Ministry has 3,000 tons of rice in starage to distribute to farmers if their crops have been damaged. A bridge and road were damaged by floodwater.
Prime minister Hun Sen visited Kampot and Kimpong Sper provinces, where were hit by heavy rain, by helicopter to inspect flood and the people.
In spite of the heavy rainfail in a few days, the level of Mekong river remain normal for this time of year.
Sihanouk ville vendors said that there were not so much visitors to the beach during July and August because of raining.
