On 5th February 2007, Ms Kemhay’s Pailin Souvenir Shop in Phnom Pehn sold me a’ruby’ for $10,000 which, according to UK experts, is a ’spinel’ worth roughly half that amount. The guarantee I was given is false. Despite 2 letters and 2 phone-calls in which a representative of hers said that I would be compensated, I have heard nothing since 8th March and my Visa account has not been credited. I will let this site know when, and if, I am.

On 2nd April 2007, The Pailin Souvenir Shop kindly refunded the difference in value between the spinel and the ‘ruby’. I post this in appreciation of their honesty and thank them for compensating me. John O’Sullivan
