South Korea Firm to build skyscraper
After state visit of South Korea president to Cambodia, private South Korean firm, The Yon Woo Company, were given green light to construct tallest building with 32 stories in Phnom Penh, located on Monivong Boulevard near the Sihanouk Boulevard intersection. The land was formerly belonging to Ministry of Health. The skyscraper will be included restaurant, condominiums, offices, a shopping center and an indoor car park. According to opposition party member, the government seems to have no vision for the capital’s development. In addition, the roads and sewers of central Phnom Penh are simply incapable of meeting the demands of a 32-stories commercial building.
Architect Helen Grant-Ross quoted by the Cambodia Daily said that a high-rise in the center of the city will create absolute havoc, with increased infrastructure.
