Cambodian child porn VCDs on Sale
Recently, the two-day investigation conducted by the Cambodia Daily found Cambodian child pornography VCDs which include senses of bondage and torture being sold at stalls and stores around Phnom Penh’s Phar Thmei under such Khmer-language titles as “Luring Underage Child,†“Old Grandfather Forced Underage Child To have Sex,†and “70-Year Old Grandfather Rape 9-Year Old Girl.†This reflects changes in social mores and abuse of laws.
On June 1, 2002, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia was one of the first 10 countries to ratify the UN Convention on child trafficking, sexual exploitation, prostitution and the distribution of child pornography. Presently, porn VCDs have been selling on the market and spreading throughout the country even to small distant remote village. So that, the government have obligation to take strong action against the sales and import of porn VCDs and should not allow playing pornographic VCDs at Café.
I used to see young boys hawking CDs and VCDs at restaurants. When they met male guests, showing porn VCDs to them, because they thought that only men who like to watch porn. This point, those are not punished but should be educated. They just make a pity income for supporting their poor family. While, pornography VCDs have being on sale at markets.
According to Keo Thea, he said that people who distribute and sell child pornography are only subject to a minor fine. He added that “there is no law against distributing child pornography but there is a sub-degree, which has no jailed term.†The Daily reported
After publishing the article “Child Porn Market Is Thriving in Phnom Penh†on The Cambodia Daily depicting child porn CVDs possible as young as 7 freely selling on the market, the UN Children’s Fund expressed outrage and calling on the public to report child porn. And it said that “there is no specific law in Cambodia penalizing child porn distribution, sale and display.â€
According to The Cambodia Daily, Kek Galabru, founder of local rights group Licadho, said that the trade sickened her. She added that “the government should really take the issue seriously. They should not allow the sales of these videos,†and “Cambodia already has a bad reputation concerning trafficking and drugs and child labor and child prostitution.â€
In the last few months, Sihanoukville’s police was conducting investigation into the distribution of 9-minut video clip of the 15-year old junior school student in bed with high school male student in guesthouse.

I can’t believe it. that is just sick and disgusting. Cambodia needs to start makinng some REAL laws. a little fine is definitly not enough.
the government are LAZY bums. They do nothing to stop these horrible crimes. Pretty much they just encourage them. Their laws are too weak. What I see is very very disgusting. We cannot let this happen anymore. We need to put a stop to it. Who know how many more innocent victims have to suffer. The government need to be more stronger or criminals will run right over them. In my opinion, these criminals shouldn’t be fined or jailed, they should be shot. It sickens me how people can do these things. Cambodia was once great. Now, i don’t know how to explain it. I want Cambodia to be the greatness it once was. Cambodia need to start waking up…
It sickens me to hear such atrocity happening in Cambodia. The government should at the very least deter criminal behaviors by passing legislation to “jail” or heavily “fined” the offender. A true leader should protect young citizens just as they would protect their own child.
