C.T, 16 years old, was raped by the manager of a salt farm after he drugged her by spiking some fruit juice.

She decided to leave school to work as a salt gatherer with her windowed mother in order to feed and educate her brothers.

Eventually, however, she was forced to go with him after meeting him by chance following her return from a religious ceremony in Kampot District. She was raped while unconscious due to the drug he gave her.

The perpetrator promised her many things if she kept the crime secret but later her mother and she reported it to police. The case was eventually dealt with but not by the law. The rapist agreed to provide 1.2 million riel (US $290) in compensation. Actually, the victim received only 300,000 riel (US $73) and the rest of the money spilled into other’s pockets. Under the law, the perpetrator should have been punished with 15 to 20 years’ imprisonment as well as having to civil compensation, in circumstances where the victim is a minor like C.T.

Holy crap! There is no way on earth that the guy should have gotten off so easily. What happened to the girl is not worth a measly US$73. No amount of money is enough to compensate for what he did.

child abuse case will never decline for this reason. so poor! death note should really exist.
