On February 14, the day of Valentine’s Day was celebrated in Cambodia. There were many flower stands selling roses on the roadside in Phnon Penh city.Young boys and girls regarded it as their special day for their love.At the meantimes, different points of views were raised, some said that it is just showing love for friends and family but others said that February 14 is a special day for their boyfrineds and girlfriends. That day, most roses were going for a premium price O $1 per stem.

Three young girls were walking and selling roses to passengers along Monivong Boulevard.Â

I didn’t know Valentine was an “international holiday”, but I guess any excuse to sell stuff is good for business. I had to buy my wife a dozen roses.
Here in America, there is nearly a holiday every week. Everything has turned so corporate and consumer driven. Now, if Cambodia can have as many holidays geared toward consumerism, then businesses should be booming.
People who uses holiday to get off work are just horrible…just like me. Anyhow I have to disagree that in America, we celebrate holiday every week. That is falsely stated b/c for experience there might be holidays, but not every holiday is celebrated unless you are living in a dream land. Maybe I am missing the world for those who live in America who celebrate holiday nearly every week. The world I live in is a little different. But I do believe that everything in the USA are all about consumerism…especially for those who don’t know the rules. It’s all good though…have you hear of foreign kids coming to the USA, tells the parents that it is tradition that bf/gf are allowed to sleep at each other house..that it is normally…that it’s what we pratice? I am sorry to say that somehow along the way when people don’t know enough about culture, they tend to bend the rules in favor of themselves and their acts. I especially love it when people say “hey, kissing and sleeping around in Western is normally.” Thats when you call culture is being preceive wrongly in the eyes of foreigner. Working in the office at school and knowing some friends who came different country and think that sleeping and bringing a bf/gf home to sleep is normal…knowing that they tells their parents that is absolutely downhearted and disconsolate to me. But whatever….it’s sickening. My point is everything is preceived only through the eyes of the beholder.
On the day, I spent only a few cent, sending greeting SMSs — no roses.
Anyways, why didn’t mentioned your activities on the day? :p
Hey Wanna, thanks for your reminding me. To me, I sent SMS to my friends too.
