in my opinion i think that cambodian-american grooms,especially the traditional ones, still holds on to the belief that the brides from the motherland makes better wives because they are docile and submissive.i have four cambodian- american uncles that went to cambodia and married for love.i also think that independent cambodian american women like myself intimidates these men.borned in cambodia but raised as an american our standards are higher than the average girls.we have high self esteem,good education and independence.i would not settle for less,for what?the sake of family?culture?no thank you.as a westerner,peronal happiness is key.

i know of two cambodian brides who complained that life in the U.S is not all peaches ‘n’cream. the one that lives in lowell,massachusetts works in a hair salon.the other one is a one is a stay at home mom living in providence,rhode island. both did not know english nor have family here.the only one person they have is their husband-that there, is a scary situation in itself.
there aren’t too many wealthy cambodians in america,a lot of people have mortgages and loans.i have been called a workaholic,but i like my job.i actually went to school to be a nurse.but that is beside the point,my point is when cambodians see foreigners visiting cambodia they think we are wealthy because we are on vacation and have no limit to our spendings.the truth is we work just as hard,maybe even harder. as a visitor to cambodia i think life there is so much more at a leisure pace.i don’t think they have it any easier,but they were in no rush to be at any particular place at any particular time.

Statistically,cambodia has the worst rights when it comes to women’s rights movement-domestic violence,child prostitution to name a few.What is “too much”? Is that because the alpha male has no dominance over the behavior of these females?

that is so far from the truth.a lot of cambodian-american girls that i know are nothing as to what you have thought. there are soooo many girls in cambodia as young as sixteen who are willing to sell their soul to marry someone as old as fifty so that they could come to the U.S. where is the honesty and understanding in that? that to me is nothing more than gold diggin.

All I hear is Khmer girls abroad criticizing khmer girls in Cambodia as gold diggin, don’t know english, and have no skills. that is so farther from the truth. girls in cambodia is more educated and intelligent than most college khmer girls in the US. Khmer girls in the US are much more materialistic and gold diggers. khmer girls in US, if they are a bit pretty, they think that khmer guys not good enough for them, and they only want a white guy. they are so brain washed by hollywood. only after they’ve been used and abused, then they came back to khmer guys.

It’s not rocket science to figure out why guys go back to Cambodia to marry. The FOBby (Fresh Off the Boat) guys are looking for a traditional Khmer girl to cook and clean and be obedient, while the older uglier guys are looking for a hot wife to marry. To be honest, most the women are so desperate to leave the country they are willing to marry anyone. I’ve seen the most beautiful young Khmer girls with oldest ugliest guys with one tooth and no hair, and the first thing that comes to mind is, “he must have gone back to Cambodia to get her.” Khmer girls in American are independent and educated and don’t need to depend on men to support them. They are not looking to marry for money, they are looking for love.

Simple equations:

Hot Khmer girl + Old Cambodian-American guy = Green Card

And by the way I have a Cambodian-American wife and believe me, she is neither obedient nor submissive (extremely hot thought).

Please, the community college most srey in americ attend (and I said most, not all), is not worth the paper the diploma printed on and the free money the gov’t give them said it all. look at the rate of pragnency, for Khmer girls 1 out of 1000 got pregnant, look at American khmer girls 8 out of 10 got pregnant without a father. Wow, how did this get so dirty. Hope I didn’t offend anyone with what I said. I never considered this to be a grudge match between America and Cambodia. I think we can all agree we love Cambodia, GOOD and BAD. Having said that, we all know there are more opportunities in the US. Who can blame anyone for trying to get here. I’m talking strictly from a guys perspective. From my experience the Khmer men that have gone back to marry usually are the ones making a modest living working a blue collar job (like I said only my experience). Most these guys aren’t living it up in the states but, when they go back to Cambodia they are viewed as high rollers. Honestly most Khmer girls would jump at the opportunity to marry someone like that just to come back to America where they have more opportunities. Those same guys in the states couldn’t get near the type of girl they would get from Cambodia (aesthetically speaking). It’s a win-win situation. What’s the problem in admitting that? You have to assimilate to life where ever you are, thats what we are all trying to do. I wake up everyday and I’m proud of what my family went through to make something of themselves in America, and I’m proud of myself for taking advantage of the opportunities they have given me. No disrespect to my sisters in Cambodia, but when you’re American it means you have freedom to chose who you want to be. If you want to educate yourself that all good. If you want to sleep around thats your choice. The thing is over her IT IS ALWAY YOUR CHOICE. Definitely not saying Khmer girls in America are “better” they’re just given the opportunity to make choices for themselves, good or bad.

Sahat, here is my advice: you should think of all the difference prespectives and every situation is case-by-case. I am not looking down on Khmer Cambodia girl. I want to see more and more of them take the opportunities that are given to them when they come here to the states. I want to see them work hard and stop complaining about life here in the US. Khmer-Cambodia girls who came from Cambodia always tries to take a loop out of working hard and expecting more for they are not willing to put into. There are options and freedom to do anything. I would rather say I am not looking down on them, but given the situation based on case-by-case, it is not easy to get adjusted to a new place but you have to make the most out of what you can do. They can not sit on your butt and expect that the Husband have monies to give to them and buy them a new luxury car and diamonds and also aside from all of that have additional monies to send back to the parents. Of course I might sound mean or to the extreme but they need to learn how to make their own livings and take care of the family before they should expect millions of dollars to be send back home and on top to be rich. This is not money land, it’s opportunities land, you work hard and you will see the outcome and results. In speaking with Khmer-Cambodia girls here who come from Khmer, they hate us Asian-American girls whether it’s jealousy or whatever. They claim that oh it’s b/c we are born or raise here that’s why we are better off and have more opportunities. My friend, let me say something, WE WORK HARD for our freedom. It’s not b/c we were born or raise here. There are thousands of people including Whites, Black who are born here but still have nothing. You know why, it’s b/c they expect everything to be put on their plate just like those newly foriegner girls who come here (it’s a generlization). There are chineses people who are also foriegner but hey they work hard for their education. Some dont even know any English as fluently as those Asian-Americans girls, but they are were better in school or anything they do. You know why? It’s call WORKING HARD and not expecting everything to be given to them. So just b/c we say things out of our mouth that sounds mean and evil, in no mean are we trying to look down on Khmer girls.
