Cambodian BloggersFour of Cambodian bloggers were published on the front page of The Cambodia Weekly with big title “C l o g g e r s”. Those are Deedeedoll, Khmerlegend, Trajoke and KhmerBird. This is the second time for Cambodian bloggers released on local newspapers.

As I remembered, Bun Tharum was the first Cambodian blogger published on The Cambodia Daily in 2005. And he is presently the author of Globalvoices, representing Cambodia. On February 14, I and my director had lunch with The Asian Foundation’s country representative. He said that “Tharum is the father of Cambodian blogger.”

Since the boom in technology in Cambodia nearly a decade is to give opportunities to young Cambodians to keep pace with neighboring countries and the world. The price of internet is still high and some provinces are hard to access information and news through Internet.

During the last few years, a number of Cambodian bloggers is increasing from day to day, especially in Phnom Penh and towns. At the mean times, some blogs are dead because blogs’ owners had no enough time and not so much interested in blogging.

Presently, “Personal Information Technology workshop” is the volunteer group with four members, including Mean Lux, Virak, Be Chantra and Keo Kalyan, presenting and teaching blogging to high school and university students.

It is not different goal from local non-governmental organization- Open Forum of Cambodia. It has one program relating to Blog Training for students, NGO staff and government official…etc in Phnom Penh and 3 provinces – Kompong Cham, Battambang and Siem Reap.
