Monks crash during peaceful march
One Khmer Krom monk was hit above the eye with rock and six left superficially injured on Friday morning, while local monks and civil plain dress emerged from Wat Ounalom and crashed with a group of 50 Khmer Krom monks participating in peaceful march in an attempt to highlight alleged religious oppression in Vietnam.
Khmer Krom Monks marched to the Royal Palace following being blocked by police from approaching Vietnamese Embassy in an attempt to calling for Vietnam to count for three missing monks, and reinstate six defrocked monks in February.
There should not be violence between the same Buddhist monks to solve dispute. By the way, monks should not be used to crack down on other monks who peacefully demonstrated in the public. Independent investigation should be made in order to find out mastermind.
Great Supreme Patriarch, Tep Vong, said that “we don’t know whether they are real monks or not.†For the government side said that this demonstration was illegal.
CCHR’s Ou Virak said that local monks who participated in violence should be defrocked and brought to justice, but Mu Sochua, SRP Secretary General, said that Khmer Krom monks who traded shoves and angry words during the clash had been provoked and therefore should not be defrocked.
