Krama (Scarf)

Krama weaverThe craft of Krama (Scarf) weavers have been practiced from ancient time until today by the Khmer, especially female adults and girls at countryside. The scarves are made from cotton and the most famous of which are found in Konpong Cham and Takeo province.

 

A young girl is helping her parents manufacturing scarf after her school. She is population living in Chroy Ampil Village, Kien Svay district. 30% of people are living on scarf handicraft. Production of Krama has been sold at Olympic, O’russey market and throughout Cambodia.

 

They have become very much a symbol of Cambodia and for many Khmers, wearing one is an affirmation of their identity. The colorful checked scarf known as the Krama is almost universally worn by rural Khmers (Cambodians) and is also popular in the cities.
