Khmer News- Cambodian economy
Advertising Beer Billboard

I do not help promote Beer Company, but I just want to reveal you whether beer or alcohols should be banned from advertising in the public or not. These products affect human health. Such ads seem to urge Cambodian people to buy their products.

it shouldn’t be banned cuz everyone at everywhere drink it. it is like cigarette ppl know that when they smoke they will die but no one is afraid. so the best way to stop ppl drinking and smoking is to increase the price when the price is high or too high not so many ppl will drink or smoke any more!!!!
Hi Vutha;
I don’t think banning advertisement would stop people from buying or drinking beer [may be would have reduce the impact on underage children]. Beer, wine and alcohol products are still allowed to advertise in public, but one product that is banned in public is Cigarette.
The price can be controlled by tax system. But, do you think tax works in Cambodia? Cambodia is a free market economy, which mean it should be a lot of companies advertising, competing, unlike other country, in Cambodia mostly they promote cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, and SCAM!!!
That’s funny
On April 2007 Prakas released, the government changed tax policy for certain domestically produced goods including beverage and tobacco by prompting an increase in price for several Cambodia-brewed beers.
But i doubt why government does not pose tax on imported beers. the government should pose high tax on imported beer in order to protect domestic producer’s interest and encourage domestic investors. the domestic companies give jobs to our Cambodians.
Cigarette is seriously dangerous to human-being, not only the smokers but also non-smokers. it can kill through heart disease, and serious respiratory and cardiovascular illness. On Tuesday, the World Health Organization called for a global ban on smoking at work and in enclosed places. By the way, there are some countries ban smoking in the public such as European countries, New Zealand, Bermuda, Uruguay, and US. WHO said that 200,000 workers die each year due to exposure to tobacco smoke at work, while around half th world’s children breathe air polluted by tobacco smoke.
Whether Cambodian government should ban smoking in the public and workplace or not. Cigarettes have been advertised on TVs, Radios, newspapers and in the public as well in Cambodia.
yeah you are rite but what i want to stress here is that banning cigarette and beer are not the rite thing that most developed or developing country should do since these products give lots of benefits to those countries. for example UK and US the producer of those stuffs. so don’t believe the rich countries say or advise u doing thing but try to look to what those rich country did in the past… in order to be rich. that is all.
