Unemployment and labor market
Hundreds of fresh university students leave their schools every year, and those of them are facing unemployment because labor markets cannot meet sufficiently labor demand. While graduated students also are not guaranteed by schools or universities. Presently, 70% of the population is underage 30 years old.

The third Career Forum 2007 was organized at National Cultural Center on 1-2 June with participation of leading companies and NGOs. This platform is where for potential candidates to meet their future employers, for companies to promote their activities and careers and to share with entrepreneurs.
Most of attendees are university students visited companies’ booths showing their products and activities. During these days, students had an opportunity to apply for jobs to companies, and were given good advices from recruitment companies about how to seek jobs in the present time.
As we know, Cambodia’s poor education system is the root of the problem to find work. Youths presently are facing an uncertain future, they experience despair and hopeless because of a lack of opportunities to find jobs. Thousands of graduated students are leaving university every year but they are not guaranteed employment.
Meanwhile, there are an amount of private universities and institutes booming in the last decades, but the quality of education system is still poor. Early childhood has a role to play in explaining why critical thinking can be lacking among Cambodian students. It is unlike the west, when they are young; they are constantly using their brains critical thinking exercises.
On the other word, another problem is the lack of career centers or career guidance counselors at schools and universities. And also important is the fact that most students rarely do work experience while they are at schools or universities. As the result, when they arrive on the job market totally unprepared for the realities of the modern workplace.
According to CDRI’s researcher, the number of jobless people has increased from 10 to 20 percent and that people who have jobs mainly live in cities, while most people in rural areas have remained jobless.
