After leaving high school in 1994, I rarely met all of my classmates. I arranged lunchtime with them but there were a few coming to join with. What was strange was that we all rode Tuk Tuk (three-wheeled vehicle) together to other side of river. And this is the second times for me to ride it. If we try to keep in touch with old friends, that is important to strengthen closely relationship ties.

Playing card

Before having lunch, they were playing card. Almost friends, when they met together they always played card.

It was time to start having lunch together. That was very delicious food when we ate it together.

Actually tuk tuk in Cambodia has four wheels. The term tuk tuk came from thailand, we should have our own name for that. :-)

  2. vutha says:

Oh i just know that Tuk Tuk is coming from Thailand. I think that riding four wheel vehicle is more safe than motorbike taxi (moto dob). U think so? Did you ride bike taxi? I used to ride it during 80s when i was young.

  3. borin says:

Yeah vutha I ride on motodup sometimes. Here’s news since I cannot access my blog I hope I can convey message through here:

The Municipal office has issued a News release stated that: In order to keep social order and safety they require all vehicle owner who used the old-design number plate to change to a new one. The News release set no deadline for vehicle owner, but stated that the police may hold your vehicle in custody if you failed to comply.

Here some question I need bloggers to help answers:

Is the previously issued number plate illegal?
What is the pursose of doing this? social order or social safety? do you see number plate can affect traffic safely?

Help me answers, above question. repaying again for a new number plate is not fair right? we already pay once. This is governement, but if the businessmen do this they may get their ass kicked.

    :)

Yes, I got informed through TV last night. I think that it is not reason for social order and social safety for changing old plate number to new one. in fact, it is a pretext to pocket money into their pocket. Did u remember City Hall announced all Cambodians to stall motorbike mirror? but their plan was like kiss ass. Some people were threatened by traffic police to pay fine when they did not have mirror. and later, their plan became nothing. they only make plan without thinking about the poor’s living standards.

If they really take legal action, i will be one of other people’s victims, because i used old plat number with my old motorcycle. I stalled it since 2000. To my opinion, i don’t agree with their strategy.

Government should strengthen illegal smugglings cross borders, such as right-wheel luxury cars, goods, gasolines and so on? By the way, revenue tax would be embezzled by corrupt officials, but they have not been punished by law. How many people are living below poverty line???? nowadays, the rich is getting rich, the poor is getting poor and their land have been grabbed by the powerful and the rich. Who do card of the poor???

I recalled some old people told me that, we should call tuk tuk, as rotes salei. I am not sure if that’s right can you verify this name?
Tuk Tuk=3wheels vehicle in thai land, they call it tuk tuk because it machine make the tuk tuk tuk noise.

Cambodian should call our version, with our own language because it doesn’t make any tuk tuk tuk noise at all

  6. vutha says:

Yes, I agree with u. we should use our own language. But I always hear our people called it Tuk tuk. So, I called it like this. In fact, I honestly don’t know it well.

  7. Darachan says:

Actually, it’s not wrong that we don’t use our language. Khmer people always like saying what they said before. Some words we still use foreign language( Thai, French, Chinese, Vietnam…) such as Kapi, Chapchhay or anything else… Where are the thing come from, we can use that language instead. It’s not a kind of mistake…
