When you go to have drinking and dinning at night at restaurant and Beer garden, there will be a lot of beer girls standing around you and ask you “drink my beer, drink my beer…” Sometimes, you just reach the entrance of restaurant; the girls walk with you and hold your hands as well. Meanwhile, it is sometimes hard for you to make decision what type of beer to be chose for drinking. Right?

That is the career of Beer promotion girls, when they sell more and more bottles or cans of beer, they will earn more income, including wage or without monthly salary. At the mean times, some people think that the beer girls are like prostitute. Is it right? I do not deny that it is wrong or right; I raise two different points of view I used to meet:

Some of girls work for Beer Company for earning monthly salary and extra commission (when more bottles and cans of bees to be sold, extra earnings to be paid) or they only receive commission of sold beers. Besides of this income, they play other role as prostitute. They go to sleep with guests, if they agree to go with. At this point, some guests do not respect the beer girls’ rights because they view them as prostitute.

Some of others only work for their wage or some extra commissions to support their family. So that, some girls, who work and serve as prostitute, undermine the innocent girls’ reputation. Generally, most people always regard the beer girl’s work as not good jobs. We, Cambodians, should respect their work, and rights.

Recently, workshop was organized by CWCC at Sunway Hotel. Some recommendations were raised for brewery companies to pay enough wages to employees, to protect the girls’ right abuse. In addition, the companies have to design good uniform for the girls in order to retain Khmer traditional dignity and to protect girls not to be hugged, kissed and touched at workplace. Besides, the companies have to transport them to home with safety.
