I just wanted to share mistakes that I made during my study at university. I never thought it at all until I graduated from university. Later I knew that it was very important. At the present, in general, university students have not thought about it yet. What is it??? Studying? Is it hard for you to find job after leaving university??? It is really hard to find job. Sometimes you do work that you don’t like, but you still do it. Right?
When I was at university, I never thought that I should work as volunteer or part-time work at all. By the way, I did not care so much about knowledge of foreign language. I just went to school and did assignments. Besides of my free time, I went out with my friends. While I left university, I knew that it was very important for me when I was jobless.
I now want to share some views with all of you for what I met.
1- Working experiences: You should not think that you will apply for job after graduating from university or institutes. Employers and recruitment companies always require experienced staff and they rarely give opportunity to fresh student to practice. Beside school work, you should take your valuable time to find work as volunteer and part time with companies or NGOs in order to absorb some working experiences.
2- Foreign language: it is very important. Even you have in BA or MBA degree, you have to know language. Cambodian or foreign-owned companies always need staffers who can speak or write language and so on. So you have to think clearly about language knowledge that is a tool for communication.
3- Building network: over the world, you cannot live alone; you have to network with someone who is working for company or NGOs. Network is critical for finding job. When company or organization needs staff, if they know you and your ability, it is good opportunity for you to get job or they help recommend you to companies or NGOs.
What I said above is what I used to meet when I was at university, graduating and during finding job. And I recorded it for sharing with all of you.
I faced difficulties in finding job because at that time, my language was very poor (but now is not good) and have no relationship. I got job that was not related to my specialization but I still worked because I needed money to spend on my living cost. I always had jobs through my friends who recommended me to other companies or NGOs. What I said is not perfect but I think it is a portion you met. I hope that you all will help give good ideas for our next generation in order to avoid to waste valuable times.
