Youths trained journalism’s career

51 young youths were trained about journalism’s career at Chhne Tonle hall in Svay Rieng province a week by professional journalists from popular Khmer local newspapers under fund support by EED through Open Forum of Cambodia, cooperating with YCC network.

The training from July 30 to August 04, 2007 is on the purpose to strengthen youths’ capacity building how to write information, explore information and search for information sources for the level of communes. After training, some of them will be selected to be reporters for writing information happening at their communes. Presently, information from commune levels has not been widely published.

This pilot project is implemented by Open Forum of Cambodia in cooperating with Svay Rieng provincial volunteer network of YCC. All information written by youths will be published on Community Information (weekly publication) and distributed to their communes in return.

Most of them from three districts are studying at grade 10 to 12, among them, 32 males and 19 females. At the present, they are voluntarily working closely with commune chiefs, village chiefs, commune councils and participate in commune council meeting at commune level and disseminating the awareness of youth issues, democracy, commune development, education and health and so on to their communes.
