Cambodian Blogger Summit Event on media’s eyes
After announcing Cambodian Bloggers Summit to be held on 30-31 August 2007 in a few coming days, there are many Cambodian bloggers and media coverage drawing attention by the unprecedented event in Cambodia. And it is good opportunity for Cambodians to more clearly understand what blog is. Even me, I am so interested in it and I am going to join it and hope to meet more foreign bloggers as well.
Recently, I was interviewed by journalist from Voice of America (VOA) by asking me about the process of organization of blog event. It is because that I and my organization are not organizer, only cooperating with PITW I did not say about it in details. I also referred the questions to organizer to elaborate. What I was surprised was that the journalist did not know what blog is. She just told me, she got this information from her friend. And then she was interested in it and wanted to write news about this event. At that time, I took time to explain her about what the blog is and its benefit.
In general, most of Cambodian youths still do not know the term “blog” yet, even my friends they do not know it as well. By the way, I was blamed from radio listener by using word “blog” while I was on radio talk show last few months.
I also received email from Mr. Munthit Ker who is journalist of the Associated Press and asked me to give him permission to quote my articles for his story. He added that he is really enjoying producing story coving blogger summit event in Cambodia. He mentioned that he like reading my article saying about “Who is the first Khmer blogger?”
After the summit, I hope that more and more Cambodian students and youths will understand the benefit of blog more clearly.
Virak who is one of PITW’s members expressed pressure after he knew that there are many media coverage know the event. And he hopes that the media will help spread this news to all Cambodians.
