Reasons for blogging in English

Debate about blogging in Khmer and English had been made during the second day of Clogger Summit 2007. There were different opinion of blogging in Khmer and English to be claimed by Cambodian bloggers. In fact, I really strongly support to blog in Khmer but now it is not time for me to blog in Khmer. At the mean time, Beth raised the debate about blog in Khmer and English during summit “If English is your second language, what language do you want to blog in?

Why don’t I blog in Khmer? Blog in English?

I have some reasons for blogging in English since I started my blog in 2006 as following:

The points I mentioned above are what I have to blog in Khmer, I hope you all will have other reasons for blogging in Khmer and English. Please join in making discussion about this.

well, that is that problem. but as my idea i just want to share that there are many ways to learn english. for example you read english book watch english movie and listen to english song that is much helpful. and the idea that there is not much contents in khmer is not acceptable. if you don’t start who will start. you know most of cambodian ppl are passive, they wait for others. Please be the first to start…

Foreigner reads your blog? don’t expect that… tell u the truth i rarely read foreigner’s blog only if it is related to cambodia.

moreover, i would start first with my website :)

Thanks for your good idea. it is true if we do not start who start. But now it is not time for me to write it in Khmer. By the way, I have some problem with typing Khmer Unicode. How can we solve it?

I realize that some foreigners read my blog and they left their comments and I met them as well by my blog at Clogger Summit in PP.

I still support your idea to produce Khmer content.

well, there is no more problem with typing khmer unicode. we now have khmer spellchecker that can help us not to write the wrong word. you can find out more at http://khmertale.com/forum in the Computers and Technologies Forum for those stuffs.

Thanks Khmertale.

Blogs written in Khmer or in English have the same importance if you know how to deploy them.

I’d like to mention that in general, Blog is the best way to communicate freely between the writers and the readers over the world.

So we must spread out updated Khmer infos by blog in english to foreign readers from any country of the world

and also must spread out world infos by blog in Khmer for Khmer people to have updated informations

Those are the reason

In order to widespread Cambodia info over the world, we should write it in English, it does not mean that i dont want to write in Khmer. According to Cambodian internet users, 6000 in 2000, and last update 44000. It means that our Cambodian people cannot access news through internet in the present time.

Since the vast majority of internet users read English, I think it would be extremely limiting to blog in any other language, not just yours. If you intend to be read by many people, you have to cater to many people, and while there might be 44,000 Cambodians on the internet, there are millions of English speakers. I got to this site through another site, which I got to from a comment on a site that I stumbled upon (by the way try StumbleUpon, it is a wonderful plugin for Mozilla Firefox which will let you find new cool stuff) where I learned about beer girls in Cambodia. I find it very disturbing the way that beer brewers take advantage of these young girls by paying them slave wages and providing no benefits whatsoever. Please read my post on my blog for more information, and check out the links.
