One million signatures or thumbprints on anti-corruption petitions will be collected from voting age citizens by actively civil society and the Mainstreaming Anti-corruption for Equity Program of Pact-Cambodia in an attempt to reflect citizen strong demand for serious actions by the Government against corruption and an immediate enactment of an anti-corruption law that meets international standard.
Until now, there were more than 30 thousands of signature on petitions have been collected from citizens. Civil society and local organizations will conduct campaign to collect the rest of more than 60 thousands of thumbprints on petitions until mid-April 2008 to be presented to the National Assembly.
More than 10 years of draft anti-corruption have not yet been passed, and now it is in the hands of the Council of Ministers, with no indication of when it will be sent to the National Assembly for consideration.
Therefore, anti-corruption petitions of signatures or thumbprints from citizens are only the demand for approving anti-corruption law to meet international standards. But it is important is that whether it is Government’s willingness to pass it or not. By the way, government really needs it to fight corruption in Cambodia or not.

I believe if ppl have will to make ready the law, it should have been came out many years ago. Nevertheless, I appreciate the civil society’s work.
i would really like to sign , but i think its only for cambodian nationals? However, there are a lot of laws, but nobody takes really action…
Yes, Only Cambodian citizens aged from 18 years old will be allowed to sign on petition.
That’s big demand. Who or which institution responsible for collecting the signature?
All local NGOs have right to summit proposal to Pact-Cambodia to be awarded fund for supporting collection of thumb prints or signatures on petitions from Cambodian citizens. Pact-Cambodia will give small grunt to NGOs to run it.
As i know, there are more than 30 local NGOs working to fight corruption in Cambodia.
I applaud the effort, but laws cannot legislate righteousness in a man’s heart.
We still need them, though…I guess.
