“According to recent news, the agency that governs educational technology in the United Kingdom has advised schools in the country to keep Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT)’s Windows Vista operating system and its Office 2007 software out of the classroom and administrative offices…..Click here”

This article have been sent through google’s group, but now it has been topic for making discussion between group members by expressing different points of views.

John T.Denny, Executive Director of PC4peace, Said that:

“Transition to a changed OS is always a challenge… seems back in my days of using Apple OS there were all sorts of changes from version 6 to 7 to 9 etc… Version 10 was a big change… Windows 98 to 2000/xp was a big change too…

More resources consumed and doubts to effective advances… I am still a fan of Windows 98… seems to be a small enough Os, runs smoothly and does most everything…

On Windows Vista… a friend has one of those huge HP 19inch screen laptops… 2 hard drives and just about every feature one could ask for… Vista ran very smoothly on her computer as it had 2 gb ram and a fast enough cpu/gpu she begged me to downgrade the computer to Windows XP… after a few hours of playing around on vista with funny boxes jumping up all over the place I clearly understood why… It is now running smoothly on windows XP… for the past years that I have used XP I have been pretty happy with it…

Thanks again for the article… yes… there is seemingly no reason to upgrade to Vista… yet for those that buy a new computer with Vista pre-installed… they too may consider a downgrade to XP.”

Mr. Be Chantra said that “Open Source Software is the best choice to choose for school. Below are the reasons why school should exclusively us Free Software:

  • Using Free software will save school’s money. And we all know that a majority of schools are always short of money.
  • Will help society as a whole escape from being dominated by mega corporations because today school students who are trained to use Free software will continue to use the same software when they are adults.
  • Free software permits students to learn how software works because they have access to the source code of the software.
  • At a deeper level, Free software encourage people to be good citizens and good neighbors — to cooperate with others who need their help. In the area of computers, this means teaching them to share software.

Looking at the current situation, we still do not know how much OS has been using in Cambodia? By the way, it is hard for Cambodian users to use OS quickly. Most Cambodian users have been using Microsoft other than OS. How Do You Think?

My system is Intel 2Duo core and basic Vista. I can tell you that if you are looking for doing things as you used do on XP then you can’t do a thing with Vista. And file that sent as attachment on MS word can’t be retrieved on Vista either. Think it is better use XP if you want everything you use to do on XP
