It is good that the ministry of information issued a notice to put a haul to advertisement on media outlets giving job recruitment abroad on December 25. But it is not enough to ban companies from operating in Cambodia as agencies to arrange documents for working abroad.

I personally used to see and listen employment advertisement on local newspapers, radio as well, by announcing to help seek overseas works with high salary such as in Thailand, Korea, and USA…etc.

In addition to banning announcement, government’s relevant institutions have more duties to do in order to protect low-educated Cambodians, who always have been tricked. By the way, the false information confuses people into being cheated as well. Institutions have to carefully investigate all private Companies, which are serving as service agencies in the country, and to close those illegal companies.

The past is like the present, most of poor people have been cheating into working abroad, including Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan and so on.

After reading this news, it reminded me of true story, while I went to my friend’s Internet Cafe, hearing the old woman crying from the calling booth. What happened to her? In fact, she was calling to her daughter, who was working in Malaysia for nearly 6 months as female servant. At that time, she said to me that house’s owner did not pay her daughter’s wages since working there. And she was also ill-treated. The old woman added that, she was contacting Cambodian Embassy to Malaysia to help her sister to come home country.

One Response to Not enough to halt Job ads on media

  1. Bok says:

I have read a few article in past concerning this unfortunate circumstances, I think that everyone who would like to work oversea must aware of what will be happening and shall in particular understand the fine prints written on the contract [it is no point to say that I didn't know what was in the contract, I was persuaded and trust my agent or employer because it will not help should they want to make a legal case].
Should there be any threat to safety they should go to the authority in host country and seek help as soon as possible.
