New draft law made to protect farmers’ plants

More than 30 years, all kind of trees have been cut down and exported to foreign countries, especially the neighboring countries. The poor people who used to live on natural resources are getting difficulties from day to day. Some lands have been confiscated as private ownerships. Land dispute is remarkably creasing throughout the nation. The poor is becoming the victims of land dispute.

Recently, the ministry of agriculture has started drafting “Law on Farmers’ plants Patents” in an attempt to protect farmers who breed a new kind of plants for 20 to 25 years, depending on the kind of plants.

The new draft law is to encourage and push people to cultivate breeding of plants’ crops. After deforestation, the new law has been made, it is not different from Khmer proverb saying that “the cattle lost and then fence has been built to protect.”

At the present, some kind of wood have been still cut down and exported to neighboring country, especially Vietnam. Who help protect the rest of trees from being cut down? What are the forest officials doing? Who is trading logging?
