Well, presently, no one does not say about the buying and selling of land across the country, when I have met people anywhere I have more often heard about the land speculation. Most Cambodians are putting their big amount of money into land investment because they hope that they will get back big money. At the mean time, the poor in rural areas are being pleased with the high land price, selling their portion of rice fields and household’s land. Most of the well-off and rich family does not deposit their cash in bank. They would rather invest their money in real estate instead.
To these points, I do not talk about the land speculators or land traders, but I observe that the poor people have been happy when the land value is recently going up and then they sold their portion of rice fields and agricultural land. We can ask ourselves that whether they will invest the money from sold land properly, whether they really are able to manage and use their money in other small business. I feel deeply concerns about the people after selling land.
In reality, the people will be getting poor and poor if they utilize improperly their money from land. I personally always observe that they like spending their money on buying new motorcycle, luxury car and on their individual enjoyment. After selling land, some of people’s property has been robbed, sometime they are dangerous to life. Finally they lose both land and money.
Because of using money in wrong way, in the future, they will be still facing the lack of land to grow rice, vegetable, and cash crops as well. And those lands will have been occupied legally by the rich and the powerful.
By the way, most of the poor have presently been the victim of the increase in the high land price. The land dispute is increasing happening throughout the country. They have been forcibly evicted to relocation under government’s development scheme without infrastructure, school, hospital, clean water, electricity as well. Some people have been killed by armed forces.

I hear this everyday. It’s become a lucrative job for some mighty ppl and bad dream for the weak/poor. The Cambodian government must take another strict step to control this issue, or it’s getting worse day by day.
