Last week, I went to Battambang a few days, when leaving the provincial town you will see small stall standing on the road side along National road 5 to Phnom Penh. There are a lot of NEM to be hanging. And then car stopped and my colleagues took off and bought the tasteful NEM for their family and friends, except me. It is because that my family do not like eating, me too.

As you know Nem have been made of hashed fish meat that is wrapped and cooked in banana leaves and are rolled into small ones with chili slice and star-gooseberry leaves. Nem have been eaten as a snack or with rice.

NEM in Battambang Province

Some Nem have been wrapped into banana leaves and some are wrapped with plastic bag, hanging to umbrella in front of stalls along road to Phnom Penh.

Hello Mr. Are you sure they are cooked? I think they are supposed to be uncooked…. Maybe I was told the wrong information.

@ Lina and Phalkunz, Sorry for making mistake. I thought it is uncooked. they use fresh or rare meet to make it. But i never saw them making it. If saying about NEM, most people think over Kratie.

Hey Chhaya, I do not like it so much it is because that it is rare meat and don’t like chili as well. Year, that is good for being used as Entre with beer. Hahahaha.

for those who love NEM, uncooked meat can cause illness. I think though NEM is believed to be cooked by the salt or the ingredients used will make the food cooked…i don’t know….cooking is not my field…but yes uncooked meat has bacteria-e.coli which can cause serious illness. BUT I KNOW NEM IS GOOD…sorry I dont’ eat it, but my parents, brothers, and sister does. =)
