At my house block, the blackout has occurred frequently almost every day and even at my workplace as well. The blackout always happens in dry season, and is worse than the previous year. It is because of the increase in the demand for electricity.

According to EdC, extra demand for electricity in Phnom Penh will goes up to 30 to 50 megawatts to meet the current demand. And the electricity will be blackout for two to three hours in city’s outskirts in order to fulfill the lack of electricity in City.

The reasons for blackout is because of the increase of using household electricity appliances, and rising oil cost, hotels and factories shut out their private generators by using EdC’s electricity instead. By the way, the amount of electricity supply declines due to hydropower dams’ less electricity produce when the level of water goes down in dry season.

The soaring of cost of oil, Prime minister has announced all ministries to reduce and save the national budget and to help saving electricity consumption.

Premier said that “All ministries and state institutions were told to cut back on electricity consumption through a number of measures suggested in the sub-degree. Adding that before leaving their offices staff should ensure they turn off all air-conditioners, computers and printers, while streetlights should be turned on only one side of the street or only every other one lit, The Mekong Time report.

Looking at the present time, the increasing amount of demand for electricity is because that the boom of high buildings.

Blackouts are rare in Canada but electricity is becoming more expensive here. The government recommends that we try to conserve energy but most people don’t because they are willing to pay for the amount of energy that they use.

Hydro companies will be charging a higher rate during peak hours, i.e. during business hours and chargng everyone a regular rate when they use energy during off hours. But in the end, I think everyone will continue to use the same amount of power that they’ve been using.

Just wondering why some places has the power all the time and the people around that areas never complaint about the electricity blackout? I feel very disturb at home cos most of the time, i have no power at my house. If it were blackout in the morning then until mid day and in the evening likely there will be ok. But if i have the electricity during the day time, then in the evening i have to suffer until 10pm or 10.30pm sitting and wishing the electricity to come back. Almost like worshiping the god of electricity…lolz.

And other fact at my work place, the electricity cut of everyday…everyday. So we have to use the generator which is very annoying with the noisy it produces. Life…sucks..f***ing…dude… and i was fined by the police in town too yesterday. they said i don’t put the side mirrors on my moto…dude. Haha let us respect the policy makers in our country…

Power supply in Cambodia is far from enough to accomodate the current needs unless those hydro-power projects are approved and completed per schedules. Alternative way is to buy more power from neighbouring countries but might not be relaible and viable in a long run.

@ Piseth, even at my workplace, blackout always happens almost every day. I am so sick of crazy electricity. When the electricity is blacked out. I have nothing to do and sit to wait for electricity coming back. Hahahaha.

@Angkor138, it is true that government have signed agreement with investors to construct hydro power dams. But not sure whether it will provide enough power or not in the near future.
