Requiring to put price tag on items
Recently, the municipality announced all restaurants, shops, groceries and stalls at market to stick price tag on all products, foods and all items in order to facilitate buyers to check price and purchase goods and to avoid the fake price set freely by sellers. By the way, the municipality warned that if the price tag has not been set in public, those restaurant or grocery shop and others will face the closure or stop their operation.
The reality is that I got used to see food price set at some restaurant and super markets in Phnom Penh but I never see the price tag placed on items at grocery shops or stalls in market. While I have gone shopping at markets, I am really hard to bargain the price. Sometimes, I was cheated by setting high price that made me difficult to bargain.
When I read this announcement, it reminded me of fake price tag put on clothes at Central Market while I went shopping. And then I saw price tag and asked vendor. She told me that she just put price in order to cheat customs officials when they came to check price on the clothes, if not tagging price on clothes, the clothes vendors would be fined. At the time, she continued that the fact was that it was fake price.
So the strict measure will be taken to require all owners of restaurants, grocery shops and market stalls to put price tag, it will still be not real price set by some owners of shops and stalls in the markets, it is only fake price in order to cheat customs officials and buyers as well.
