March of sending anti-corruption petition to NA
I joined the march of sending more than one million thumbprints and signatures to the National Assembly on Friday morning, 16 May with more than 100 people from different local organizations in Cambodia. The march started from Phnom Penh Center toward to the National Assembly. One million thumbprints and signatures had been collected in 19 provinces and municipalities in an attempt to call for the government to enact the long-waiting anti-corruption law.
I walked with all of them. At the mean time, there were a lot of journalists to make report. When we arrived at the gate of National Assembly, the gate closed and then we were waiting outside. Later, there were 10 representatives who were the directors to be allowed to enter into the Assembly building in order to meet with the member of Assembly’s commission on human rights and complaints reception. All journalists were not allowed to go into Assembly’s campus to report; they were waiting outside of Assembly.
I and other participants waited and saw the result of NGOs’ representatives’ meeting with member of lawmakers whether they would accept all reams of papers containing the more than one million thumbprints and signatures to be stacked in 12 cyclos.
And then the representatives came back after meeting with lawmakers and reported to all journalists and participants that they were sorry that the lawmakers agreed to accept only the petitions had companying statements and a poster bearing photographic image of the signatures and thumbprint. But more than one million of thumbprints and signatures declined to accept and they ordered to send back and to be kept at NGO’s office.

Hope that the new mandate Parlimentarians/lawmakers sit start their 1st session with this draft law and hopefully will become bill sooner.
i want a New Policy change for Cambodia(n), Justice and Fully of Freedom. i am so glad ur the one of thos participant.
keep to good work going. There should be no more excuse for the 3rd mandate parliament to spend any more time perfecting the anti-corruption draft. by the way, the walk must have been very short - PP center to NA.
