Most of Cambodian people in remote rural areas always are afraid of getting fake dollar note after selling their land. It is because that they rarely have big amount of dollars in their hand. By the way, they are hard to distinguish the original or fake money. In order to avoid receiving the counterfeit money, they use the way of writing down the code number of each note into their paper. It is the way for verification, in case they obtain fake paper money.
Most of villagers have been tricked into getting fake note because they do not know well whether which note is real or fake.

In the States they have a pen to mark on the bill, if it turn brown it genuine. Much easier.
For the poor, they have no marking pen, therefore, it is hard for them to distinguish the real and fake bill. That is what they have to do that.
The old style which is secure is to write down the number. but what if the payer went away and then they find out later that it’s fake. problem again.
