Victim of traffic light violator

In this morning, I became the victim of traffic light violator in Phnom Penh while I was in car with my friend who is the driver. After we had breakfast and then went to meet one friend of mine at Apasara Television station. And then we approached traffic light at the intersection of the Paster Street off Beoung Keng Kong market.

Car was moving forward slowly and reached the traffic light while the light is still blue and its blue number was down until number 2, it means that it is the signal to show all drivers to be careful and to slow down its speed because the blue light will shift into the red light.

My friend’s car arrived while the blue light was showing number 2, and then I told him that “hey friend, you have to slow down your car” but he sped up. When approaching in the middle of street, the blue light turned into red. I took at on the right and the left through the car’s window, seeing motorbikes’ and cars’ drivers glancing at me and car.

At that time, I felt ashamed about myself because of breaking the traffic light law. I was the victim of traffic violator. I really know that those passengers really blamed me and my friend on violating the traffic light like that. I then told my friend that now we infringed traffic law.

Breaking traffic light

In order to reduce road accident, and traffic jam, we ourselves have to respect the traffic light, traffic signs, and law and the passengers have to respect and understand their driving. Some people still break the traffic law, even though they know the law. It is hard to educate the people who know but still break the law.

Sorry mr. Vutha, but as far as I’m concern… the ones who should have been taken care most are the youngsters. They are the one who will bring calamities to this country.

respect for traffic law is a must, i agree. Educating people to learn to respect it is one good thing. Law enforcement should also help with this, dont you think so?

At least you felt guilty because your friend – the driver did not slow down, some would not even feel that because they are not the drivers.

Respect traffic rules and orders would definitely lead to well flow traffics, less accident and casualties, save times and less hazzel for everyone, and less money spent on fines imposed by traffic police [always asked more].

Traffic in Phnom Penh would be less congested and more safe to drive, if there are more and more people have the same thought as yours. There is great improvement in the new traffic laws, but I wonder when it come into an effective enforcement.
