Celebration of Lunar New Year 2009

The year of Ox will be celebrated next week by Chinese, Vietnamese and Cambodian-Chinese throughout the country. Historically, the linking between the kingdom in Cambodia- Funan, Chenla and Angkor- and China has existed since the beginning of history. According the history, Chinese envoy, Chou Ta-Kuan, visited Angkor Thom in 1296-7.

Decorating their homes with red lanterns, lights and flowers before New Year’s Day, especially in Phnom Penh and provincial towns, is the busy days, the celebration of New Year is the time for remembering ancestors and for making offerings to gods deemed the bearers of good or bad fortune for the coming year.

At the mean time, the Phnom Penh municipality has appeal to residents to be vigilant and prevent fires caused by burning incense during the celebration of Chinese New Year. And the municipality authorities also banned the sale and use of fireworks during six-day holiday.

By the way, there never has been discrimination between the two races. And the relationship ties between the two countries are firm. The China is the main donor for Cambodia.

“The Sino-Chinese community has a clear influence in business and trade, buying and selling. Some also play a prominent role in Cambodian politics,” Ros Chantrabo, vice president of the Royal Academy of Cambodia said, quoted by the Phnom Penh Post.

More than 30,000 Cambodian-Chinese students are studying in Cambodian schools nationwide, and an ever-increasing number of people in Cambodia are learning Mandarin, the Post said.

HAPPY CHINES NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!!!  Wish all of you good luck, happiness and success in your business in coming year.
