Gov’t should stop cigarette and alcohol rather than Mobile phone advertisement
It is laughable when I read English-language newspapers entitled “Advertisement asked not to encourage long phone conservation.” When Ministry of Information announced that all advertising platforms from billboards to newspapers stop the dissemination of mobile phone advertisement that prompt clients to use and talk by phone for a long time. It is because there are the large numbers of mobile phone advertisements promoting attractive deals that make it much easier for customers to talk for long time at a cheap price.
The statement read “the content of these advertisements are concerning parents that their children do not have enough time to study.” Is it true???
I personally noticed that the ministry should take action against the advertisings about what that are affecting the people’s health. Cigarette and alcohol are still advertising on TV, newspapers and Radio. By the way, it also gives wrong message to people by saying that “Drink wine makes your health strong, fresh…” “Smoking cigarette makes your feelings fresh…” all these messages are driving people to dangerous situation that affects health, and making people to lose their money and property because of payment of health treatment.
What is the priority is that the government has to control all advertisements that affect the health of people. And it should take immediately measure to stop the advertising of beer or wine and cigarette on media outlets, because it is easy to reach the people’s feeling.
In the last few years, there are 3-4 mobile phone providers that have started their business in Cambodia. The increasing of number of competitors is to gain market shares. The calling rate is gradually lowering. The people and businessmen spend less on calling, if compared with the last five years.

By the way, this is my new website http://cambosastra.org. This Cambodian Education Resources Centre- is the first Cambodian Online Library. Pls circulate this information to your friends and Cambodian students. I hope that they will find some useful information from this living library.
I am agreed with you that cigarette, beers and liquor ads shall be restricted or banned from sponsoring any events. Mobile phone is some sort of life line for most people in Cambodia – can’t stop talking to each other on the phone. My personal opinion, parent shall know what is right and not right for their children in term of minutes or hours spending on the phone.
Hi Vutha;
Thank you for dropping by and left me a comment in “First Day” article.
Well, if you said “You are lazy to study then I shall welcome you to the club – I am also lazy in that prospect.
There are 3 good reasons that made me go for this particular course.
1] As a mutual age student (most people would say “wiser as you ages” which I tend to disagree with) I just want to find out if my reflection, memory and brain cells are still in reliable working condition.
2] By the end of the course, it will help me slightly with my current work and I can do a bit more to help people with their activity of daily living and gain independent.
3] It is paid for by my employer ($$,$$$ – that is a big sum of money).
Very often decision making was not so mature and have to revise it or just made it worse. I agree with your idea Vutha.
Hell Topkh. I dont know why you do not like to make discussion about Cambodia? I hope that your ideas and views will be useful for Cambodian people. You should participate in sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

I do agree with you Vutha. It is so ridiculous that the ministry of information try to regulate the Telephone advertisement. Instead, they should ban the cigarettes and alcohol ads.
