Whom is traffic law applied for?
Policemen have been deployed across the country in order to strengthen the implementation of road traffic law, which was signed by the King in 2007. The first step, the fine have been applied for drivers without wearing helmet and installing mirrors. The implementation of law is to reduce the fatal accident, damage private and public property by accident.
In addition, the government also confiscated the license plate bearing police and military police from private vehicles running on the public street because most of car owners used these plates in order to do something wrong affecting the image of government.
Generally, Cambodians also applauded for the measurement against the use of illegal license plates. And most of them are understandings how to wear crash helmet and install mirror while driving along the street.
Meanwhile, there are many inactive points, extortion, and bribery implemented by traffic police. And the handful of drivers always violated the traffic law, especially the luxury-cars. Police sometimes dare not to stop them and sometimes turn blind eyes to them. Even though, they are aware that those cars are breaking the rule. To this point, the question is raised that why don’t police stop and fine such cars? Whom is road traffic rule applied for?
