Paid 10,000 Riel to police last night

Even me, I really know that traffic police will enforce law at night in order to participate in reducing fatal road accident. Previous post I said about the fine by police in the evening. Oh my god, even though I know this but I don’t take care and make mistake while circulating at night. Last night, I went out with my friend who just came from Siem Reap and he asked me to have something and have a chat. Coming back home, we met traffic police at midnight stationed along Moa Tsetong Blvd. We paid 10,000 riel ($2.5) to police.
When we were driving home at around 12 at night, we met a group of policemen, including military policemen equipped with arms. And then police stopped our car. I and my friend did not know why they stopped us and then my friend opened car window asking police what was wrong to us and police responded that “whether you know you made a mistake because you did not wear belt.” Oh, I knew that I and my friend broke the law.
You know that what police said to us, he said “you have a mistake, so help a few of pure drinking waters for policemen.” I thought that why he said that. He should fine, educate and release receipt to us when we don’t respect the traffic law. He would not say such a word.
In order to put an end to this, friend of mine pull 10,000 riel out from his wallet and gave it to police. And then we drove away. In fact, I thought in my mind that I should ask them to release receipt to us but I could not say that because it was at night and so quiet. How can I guarantee my safe life on them? I personally am afraid when I met police, military police and soldiers carrying guns. I should not be worried about them. How do u do when you meet situation like this?

it also happens to me sometime, we got no choice read my last post about Cambodia traffic law, it might be useful ! take care next time.
Guys! that’s a bunch of crab! They(police officers) are just out for some quick cash. They don’t give a damn about your life. Why soo many of them with guns even, to just stop one car. They took your money w/o issuing proper ticket and shit.. total shame to the rest of the perhaps very few good ones out there. A fine example of a corrupt regime!
Let us pray that CPPs will die off soon.. Let’s hope the next generation will bring about positive to Cambodia – we sure need it fast!

haha, in this situation, I think you did the right thing. If you confront them about their corruption habits at night, do you think it will make the situation any better? Of course not!
