A long-awaited anti-corruption law had been passed by the two government bodies after this law was drafted more than 10 years. It is a result that the donors and people need the government to fight against the spread of corruption throughout government institutions. Cambodian people are a victim of corruption. After anti-corruption law was passed, will is anti-corruption issue reduced? Will is Anti-corruption bodies independent? Will is law implemented effectively? These are questions kept in mind of people who are affected by corruption.
After passing the graft law, the government expects that it will help eliminate corruption in Cambodia but what NGOs, Opposition parties and ordinary people think is contradictory to the government. While I am outside and heard concerns from ordinary people about the implementation of the law because they said that the passed law really helps protect the rich and the powerful. Is it true? Some concerns I collected from their own ideas as following:
1- The approval of the law is to please donors rather than curb corruption. If the government really wants to fight against corruption, why did they delay the law until more than 10 years?
2- They thought that the rich and the powerful that are corrupt before passing the law are still free and living under corrupt wealth and property.
3- The passed law will implement only on ordinary people and government officials who have low rank but the rich and the powerful will still avoid jail sentence because they have power and money to protect their life.
4- People still live hopelessly under the corruption issues that still continue throughout the nation.
5- It is not expected that the corruption issues will not be eliminated because the corruption bodies that implements the law are not independent and most of leaders are selected from government. So, they are under government influence.
For me, I agree with the above points if the government has no willingness to combat against the spread of corruption in Cambodia. But I hope that the government will start to clear corrupt officials who have no power first such as low government officials in order to show up the people that it will be implementing the law and fighting the corruption. Even though, we all wait and see the implementation of the law in the near future. How do you think about?

LOL……Corruptions in Cambodia IS the Khmer culture/tradition, so I strongly, strongly doubt the “anti” will do any goods for the poor Khmers……but I hope & pray for them.
Take care, Sandra
