Trip to tourism site in Stung Treng province
It is late a little bit to tell you about my first journey during Khmer New Year festival this year. Normally, during Khmer festivals, I always have visited my parents living in Memot district’s one of villages every year. This year, I and my family visited eco-tourism site in Stung Treng province in the second day of New Year (April 16, 2011).

My daughter is playing water.
It was the first time for me to travel to Stung Treng. We went to visit one of tourism destinations located in Phuk village, called ‘Phluck Village’ where I noted that most of visitors who visit this site are local people. This site where people visit is only during dry season but it is flooded during rainy season which water is running from Sesan Dam 2. When I was there I did not see foreigners. By the way, most of people living in this area are speaking Laotian language and is uneducated.
A residence who is living off Sekong bridge told me that this site is approximately 20 km from the bridge. The road toward this destination is dirty and bumpy.
Stung Treng province is situated on the Sekong River 140 km from both Kratie to the south and Banlung to the east, marks the end of the usable portion of National Road 13; the road does continue north to Laos, but is in such a dire state up here that most people heading this way reach the border by boat.
The Mekong River between Stung Treng and the Laos border is very light on population and heavy on beautiful scenery. Boulder outcroppings, numerous sets of rapids, swirling pothole currents, wide sweeping stretches of river and forested landscape along the banks all await the boat traveler. It makes for a great trip, either for the traveler that wants to continue on to Laos or for those wanting to enjoy a wild stretch of the Mekong in Cambodia.
