Angkor not to be voted for Seven Wonders

Angkor Wat

It is not regrettable or so upset while Cambodia’s Angkor Wat was not voted to rank as one of New Seven Wonders of the World via internet and telephone, announced on the seventh day of the seventh month in the year 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The new seven winners were declared by The New7Woders: the Great Wall of China, the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, Brazil’s Statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Machu Picchu in Peru, the Maya ruins of Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Colosseum in Rome and India’s Taj Mahal.

I don’t feel upset when I knew this result because I thought that the voting through internet and telephone is not fair and just for least developed countries like Cambodia. Most of our Cambodian people have limit to access internet nationwide like developing and developed countries. By the way, small Cambodian population is in comparison with other countries like China, India and Brazil.

On the other word, voting system by telephone was unavailable for Cambodian people to vote for Angkor Wat from country. Meanwhile, I think that this system is not fair to evaluate because one person could vote more times.

  4. [...] VuthaSurf, on the other hand, lamented the voting process, saying that Cambodians had less access to the voting system than those from larger nations: I don’t feel upset when I knew this result because I thought that the voting through internet and telephone is not fair and just for least developed countries like Cambodia. Most of our Cambodian people have limit to access internet nationwide like developing and developed countries. most people think new7wonders is the official result.but it is just a survey from phone or net. If they want the result official they should have had professional voted. not amateur.

  6. vutha says:

Even Gov’t officials attended the event, they still supported it. In fact, they do not know well about this system, and it can damage Cambodia’s reputation. If they want to make it official result, they should prepare system that facilitate all people to access to vote, not only the rich countries but also the poor countries.

So, I did not fell upset of this result, because it was beyond Cambodian ability to vote for.
