Khmer SpellChecker

We are always concerned about a typo in Khmer language without Spelling Checker like foreign language such as English. Now, not worried, it is possible to check mistakes of texts typed in Khmer Unicode by using Khmer Spell Checker, developed by the PAN Localization project. By the way, the Khmer Spell Checker is embedded in Ms Word and Excel after finishing installation, click to download. All words used are referring to the Khmer dictionary, patriarch Chuon Nath.

First Barcamp Phnom Penh in September

(Thomas Wanhoff is one of four planners - Tharum Bun, Ramana Sorn and Vannak Eng sent this message to all Cambodian gloggers to participate in the scheduled first Barrcamp Phnom Penh in September 2008.)

Dear all, after weeks of discussions and delays just a few people decided yesterday to try to set up the first barcamp on Phnom Penh.

BarCampPhnomPenh is Cambodia’s first BarCamp to provide people with interest in technologies and Internet to come together for a two-day gathering to learn and share skills and knowledge.

The pace of changes in technology is amazing. Too many people may find not only that this is the Age of Information, but also have to live with the so called ‘information overloaded’. And too many people may tell you that they have been left behind. This event hopes to give an open space for everyone to learn.

The BarCampPhnomPenh is free of charge to everyone. Participants will have

presentations, talks, and meet-ups on a number of topics of interest to both people running businesses and non-profit organizations.

Barcamps are so called un-conferences, because normally the schedule will be fixed on the first day. More important is, that all the participants are also volunteers for the barcamp. So if you have anything you can contribute, please help.

You will find all the information as well as the wiki. Everyone can edit this, so feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with the community.

For now, we are looking for the best location. We need one big conference room and some smaller rooms. And of course we need sponsors for t-shirts and free coffee (and some other things too).

Photoshop CS3 not support Unicode

It is not new thing for all of you but it is new for me when I used Khmer Unicode with Adobe Photoshop CS3 last week, and I just knew that it was not supported. When I typed vowels it did not work well. Some vowels run with but some does not, except consonants. And then, I switched to Limon font instead.

Who is the first Khmer Unicode font designer? I am not sure who s/he is. I used to meet and talk with Mr. Danh Hong who is the Khmer Unicode designer, presently working as report for Radio Free Asia. I met him many times but rarely talk with him about Unicode at all. A few months ago, I had lunch with him and then he told me that he just completed two more new fonts but he does not release them yet. Did you use to hear or know his name?

While I read Boeun’s article by saying that Adobe Photoshop CS4 are available to support Khmer Unicode that is great. But typing is not like typing in Ms Word. I am not sure whether there Photoshop CS4 on market or not. Unfortunately, I just installed Photoshop CS3 into my laptop.
