Photo on my blog spotted on Newspapers

  • CevherShare

I felt surprised when I read Newspaper Reaksmey Kampuchear its title “Marriage Life…” yesterday and then I saw the photo of 6 Australian guys on its front page that strongly attracted readers’ eyes. This photo I posted on my blog on August 10 with title “Australian guys wear Khmer tradition wedding,” was given by one of them who are friend of mine.

The description on the newspaper is similar to mine on the blog. I don’t know where they got this photo from. Most of those guys just went back to Australia already this month. When one of photo’s owners saw it on Newspaper, he doubted that who gave it to reporter. And then he asked me whether I gave it to reporter. Oh my God, I don’t know too.

After reading the whole text, I did not see source of photo mentioned on the newspapers yet. In fact, photos posted on my blog have been used by other blogs too but they keep the original source.

Even though, if the reporter got some pictures from other sources with permission and without permission, they should give credit to photos’ owners. By the way, they should ask permission from the original source before publishing on their news.

That’s too bad, a big newspaper doesn’t respect copyrights :(

I always observed that at the part of international news in Khmer language newspapers, including text and photos, they don’t keep and give credit to the original sources.

Popular newspapers should do something as professional news. Because it is the kind of commercial newspapers.

raksmey kampuchea should ask permission from person in photo.. or at least, they should credit the source, as you said.

  4. Chanroeun says:

I do agree with you guys. The newspaper should ask your their permission or acknowledge the source. I used to train this Australian guys before they left Australia to Cambodian last year.

After I chatted with the photo’s owner, he told me that no one of his friends gave this photo to reporter. and then i thought that reporter took it from my blog. In addition, he added that all of his friends went back to Australia already.

Therefore, if reporter receive this message from Photo’s owner, I would like him or her to clarify about the photo published on the Newspapers as mentioned above.

I hope that report will clear this doubt for photo’s owner.

Too bad. So what did the article talk about this photo? Do they speak just according to the picture they saw or made up the story? just wondering

  7. vutha says:

Hello Piseth, the article on newspapers is not related to the photo that was attached with. it is the pix that attracted reader’s eyes on the front page.

Hahaha…don’t post other pictures on your website to avoid the problem. I think Cambodian people doesn’t really have copyrights. My picture was input into one of the newspaper for the month of July…and it has nothing related to the article…I was famous for a few days. =)…hahaha

  12. vutha says:

That is true, most of Cambodian magazines and newspapers do steal photos and pictures from other sources without asking permission.

Hehehee, you are going to be popular in the art world in the near future, right? eheheh.

What is important is that i want them to give me credit, if they use my pictures.
