Battambang province
Battambang province, known as the bowl of Cambodia, is located in the northwest, bordering Thailand. Around 7% of Cambodia’s population live in Battambang, mostly farming rice and tending orchards “ Battambang oranges, prized for their sweet taste, are much in demand throughout the region. Battambang is often called Cambodia’s second city, although its wide boulevards are a far cry from the chaotic streets of most urban centers.
The province consists of 12 districts, 89 communes and 611 villages. The population of this province constitutes 6.9 percent of Cambodia’s population.
According to the General Population Census of Cambodia 1998, density of population in the province in is 68 per km2 which is slightly higher than the national density of 64.
