Kompong Cham province

Kompong Cham provinceLocated in the plain region bordering Vietnam in the south, Kompong Chan is the biggest province.

“Set on the banks of the Mekong River and within easy reach of both Phnom Penh and Vietnam, Kampong Chan is an important trade and transportation hub. The town itself is quaint and charming with a busting riverside promenade and peeling colonial buildings, though modern concrete eyesores are beginning to encroach.

Over two million people like in Kampong Cham province, most working as rubber tappers or as farmers, Kampong Cham’s flat land are red soil is ideal for rubber plantations and fruit orchards.

The province consists of 16 district, 173 communes and 1,748 villages.  According to the General Population Census of Cambodia 1998, the population of this province constitutes 14.1 percent of Cambodia’s population. Density of population in the province is 164 per km2 which is much higher than the nation density of 64.
